Some Conference Highlights
Congressional Breakfast on Capitol Hill will
open the Conference at which Dr. Carlton Erickson will give a
brief educational presentation on the disease of addiction and Rep.
Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) and Rep. Jim Ramstad (R-MN)
will speak.
Acting Surgeon General Dr. Kenneth Moritsugu,
author of the Surgeon General's Call to Action, Report of Underage
Drinking, has been asked to give the opening address.
Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) Acting Director,
Dennis Romero will keynote Thursday.
Thursday includes a presentation by one of the authors of the
new Rand Corporation report, Preventing Underage Drinking: Using
Getting to Outcomes with the SAMHSA Strategic Prevention Framework to Achieve
Results.
Two special presentations by NCADD Afilliates:
"ReThinking Drinking: A Restorative Underage
Alcohol Program" by Paul Hedquist and Monica Wilkes-Brown from
the Des Moines Affiliate, and
"Awareness Theatre: Uniting Peers and Drama for
Prevention" by John Blackman from the Jamestown, NY
Affiliate.
Christopher Kennedy Lawford, author of
Symptoms of Withdrawal is the Awards Dinner guest
speaker.
NCADD Orientation for new executive directors,
first-time attendees, or anyone who would like to reacquaint themselves with
NCADD will be held Tuesday evening. To help us plan, let us know if you'll
