Seven Minutes of Counseling by ER Doctor Can Help Reduce Drinking

People who engage in hazardous and harmful drinking are more likely to reduce their consumption of alcohol for at least one year if they receive just seven minutes of counseling from an emergency room physician, a new study finds. Physician counseling can also reduce drinking and driving.

NY Orders a Stop to Sale of Synthetic Marijuana

19296857New York State Health Commissioner Nirav R. Shah, M.D., M.P.H. has issued an order of summary action banning the sale of synthetic marijuana products in New York State. These substances, generally referred to as "synthetic marijuana", consist of plant material coated by chemicals that mimic THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.

Having just one alcoholic drink daily can increase a woman's risk of developing breast cancer by 5 percent, a review of studies concludes. Three or more daily drinks can raise a woman's breast cancer risk between 40 to 50 percent, the researchers found.
