NCADD National Intervention Network
NCADD developed and operates the NCADD National Intervention Network (NIN) through many of its local NCADD Affiliates around the country. The local NCADD Affiliates that are part of NIN abide by a code of ethics and follow specific protocols.
The philosophy of the NCADD National Intervention Network (NIN) is based on an understanding of alcoholism and other drug dependence as a disease, that the disease affects the dependent person, family members and family systems, both emotionally and behaviorally, and that all people involved in the process will benefit from the education, knowledge and support that is offered as part of the process.
Intervention is a process; it is not an event. The process, following engagement of family and friends in education and support, results in the final intervention meeting. When carefully prepared and done with the guidance or a competent, trained specialist, the family, friends and associates are usually able to convince their loved one – in a firm and loving manner – that the only choice is to accept help and begin the road to recovery.
Each year, NCADD Affiliates provide more than 5,000 interventions either directly or by referral.
NCADD Affiliate staff are specially trained and successfully experienced to be interventionists. The NCADD Affiliate training is conducted over three days and includes such topics as the role of the interventionist, training the team, selecting appropriate treatment options and special populations.
