REP. JOE KENNEDY'S RESOLUTION ON FCC NOTICE OF INQUIRY (6/26/97)

Rep. Joe Kennedy needs our help to gather support for House Resolution 171 that calls on the FCC to issue a Notice of Inquiry to seek comment and gather facts related to issues raised by the introduction of distilled spirits advertising on television and radio, with a particular focus on the effects of such advertisements on children and teenagers.

For more information on this issue, contact the Public Policy Office via e-mail at publicpolicy@ncadd.org.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AND URGE HIM OR HER TO COSPONSOR H. RES.171. TELL THEM THE FCC IS WAITING FOR CONGRESSIONAL SUPPORT TO TAKE ACTION ON THE NOTICE OF INQUIRY. THEIR SUPPORT WILL SHOW THEY BELIEVE KIDS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE ALCOHOL INDUSTRY AND ADVERTISERS.

The next public meeting at the FCC is scheduled for July 10. Chairman Hundt plans to put the vote on the agenda, but it may be pulled again at the request of Commissioner Quello.

Call the Capitol Hill Switchboard -- 202/224-3121 -- and ask to be connected with your representative's office. Or e-mail your representative:
