UPDATE ON WOLF/ROYBAL-ALLARD AMENDMENT (6/3/99)
Support is building for passage of the Wolf/Roybal-Allard amendment to the Treasury, Postal Service and Government appropriations bill. This legislation would authorize the Office of National Drug Control Policy to include underage drinking prevention messages in the federally funded national youth anti-drug campaign.
NCADD will pay for a full-page ad in the Roll Call, a widely read newspaper on Capitol Hill, urging members of Congress to pass the amendment. The ad, which will run on Monday, June 7, also will list other supporting organizations.
In the event that Congress does authorize ONDCP to include alcohol in its national youht anti-drug campaign, NCADD has writtent to General Barry McCaffrey to propose that the underage drinking prevention spots we produced with the AD Council in 1994 be used as part of the paid advertising now restricted to illicit drugs only. More importantly, we are offering to fund the productions of a new underage drinking prevention campaign as part of the paid advertising.
