SENATE VOTES ON INCLUDING UNDERAGE DRINKING PREVENTION MESSAGES IN NATIONAL YOUTH ANTI-DRUG MEDIA CAMPAIGN (7/2/99)

Near the end of June, Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) offered an amendment to Treasury-Postal-Service-General Government Appropriations bill that would authorize ONDCP to include underage drinking prevention messages in its youth anti-drug media campaign. The amendment, indentical to the Wolf/Roybal-Allard amendment under consideration by the House Approrpiations Committee, was co-sponsored by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX) and Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV). Senator Lautenberg withdrew his amendment because of opposition from another member of the committee, but planned to offer it on the floor for consideration by the full Senate in late July.

Yesterday, Senator Lautenberg offered the amendment to the full Senate, and it was voted down. To see a list of how your Senators voted, click here. Remember, a "YEA" vote was to remove the amendment from the bill.
