ALCOHOL POLICY CONFERENCE XII -- Alcohol and Crime: Research and Practice for Prevention (11/9/99)

The planning committee of the Alcohol Policy XII, of which NCADD is a member, has issued a call for presentations. THE DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 30, 1999.

BACKGROUND
This conference is the twelfth in a series that have addressed research, policy and practice issues realted to alcohol. The theme of the June 2000 conference, which will be held in Washington DC is Alcohol and Crime. It is designed for policy planners, public administrators, prevention, practitioners, community organizers public health advocates, law enforcement and criminal justice personnel, attorneys, health care professionals, social researchers and others.

The four topic areas are:
* Domestic/interpersonal violence
* Property crime/quality of life issues
* DUI
* Underage drinking


For example, abstracts are needed in the following areas: alcohol and crime in specific ethnic/racial populations; outlet density; the role of the media; irresponsible alcohol use in recreational settings (boating, sporting events, etc.); the impact of alcohol on disruptive behavior (vandalism, public intoxication, noise violations); underage drinking prevention in college settings; home delivery of alcohol; alcohol smuggling or illegal production; underage drinking and alcohol poisoning; and others.

Breakout sessions are expected to be organized thematically with two presentations of about 30 minutes each; a 10 minute commentary by a researcher on the implications of practice for research; a general discussion with questions and answers; and a summary of key learning.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
If you are interested, submit a one-page summary (no more than 250 words) with:

1. Title of presentation
2. Goals/objectives of your program
3. Description of program activities
4. Description of how you know the program is effective
5. Your name, organization, address, fax, e-mail


Fax your abstract to Sheila Nesbitt: National Crime Prevention Council, 202/296-1356.

Those who submit an abstract will be notified of the decisions of the Program Committee by December 31, 1999. The Committee is looking for funds to reduce or waive the registration fee for presenters, as well as offset some travel costs.
