Our Mission is to offer innovative, integrated services for the prevention of substance abuse by providing education, building positive values, and promoting healthy choices for youth, families and community members.
Teen Institute is a three-day, two-night leadership retreat. It is geared towards helping the young leaders of our community meet other youth with a passion to be involved. The weekend consists of several workshops that cover issues like diversity, youth in government, substance abuse prevention and personal development skills.
Substance Abuse Prevention (SAP) and Education Program
This is the foundation of the Focus prevention and education efforts. The major goals are to prevent drug abuse using science based model programs, to increase public awareness, to provide information and referral services, and to advocate for quality treatment services. The majority of our program efforts are focused toward youth and those who play a key role in their lives; to provide them with the knowledge, skills, and assets to make good decisions and maintain healthy lifestyles, free from substance abuse. Focus offers a Speakers Bureau and serves as a resource center for parents, schools, and other agencies.
Class Action is an eight-ten session classroom curriculum for high school students. Underage drinking is presented as a community wide problem, giving students the opportunity to debate the legal intricacies of alcohol related cases involving teenagers.
Keep a Clear Mind
Keep A Clear Mind is a five-session substance abuse prevention program for 3rd & 4th graders. This program gives parents an opportunity to participate in the education process.
Keepin’ It REAL
Keepin' It REAL is an evidence based prevention program designed to increase drug resistance skills among middle school students.
Life Skills is a 14-lesson program starting in 5th grade. It is implemented over three years and is proven to be highly effective. Life Skills teaches information about drugs and combats the underlying causes of substance abuse. The program covers the three critical domains found to influence drug use: drug resistance skills, personal self-management skills, and general social skills.
Holistic Life Skills
The Youth Holistic Program targets middle school youth who may be at high risk for problems such as alcohol and other drug abuse, delinquency, teen pregnancy, and truancy. The goal is to prevent and reduce such problems and to enhance and enrich the lives of the participants.
Drugosaurs is a five-lesson program for 3rd & 4th graders. The program teaches youth about different types of drugs and their short- and long-term effects. The youth will discover the reasons drugosaurs became extinct through colorful activity books that include ten stories.
BABES is a seven-lesson substance abuse prevention program for 1st and 2nd grade children. The program helps children develop valuable coping skills. It is delivered in a comprehensive way for young minds through stories and the use of puppets. Crafts and activities reinforce each lesson.
Little Jill is a puppet show presented to children that teaches medication safety. Children learn who should give them medication and how hard it can be to distinguish between medicine and candy.
