The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council for South Louisiana (ADAC) provides a wide variety of services to Region III in Louisiana. Since 1985, ADAC has engaged in community programs which endeavours are to create a greater awareness and identify problems associated with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse at the local level. ADAC continues to provide programs that target educators, parents, children, and others community members affected by substance abuse. ADAC’s goal is to provide knowledge and to provide the necessary tools needed to reduce or eliminate problems associated with the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

Mission

The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council for South Louisiana is a non-profit, community-based health organization that provides prevention, education, information, and referral services in the areas of alcohol, drug abuse, compulsive gambling and nicotine awareness to individuals and families in South Louisiana.

ADAC is a local affiliate of the National Council of Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD), The United Way for South Louisiana, Louisiana Association for Non-Profit Organizations (LANO), The Prevention Partnership Coalition, South Central Safe Community Partnership, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) and The Red Ribbon Committee

Services

  • 1-2-3 Magic- Easy-to-learn parenting solutions that work from Dr. Thomas Phelan. 1-2-3 Magic was designed to bring practical, easy-to-use discipline techniques to families and educators.
  • AA orientation meetings- Is for people who are either court ordered or for those wanting to start A.A. meetings for the first time.
  • Adult and Adolescent Substance Abuse Evaluation- This is an assessment done by a Licensed Professional Counselor for alcohol and drug related issues.
  • Child Passenger Safety Seat Fitting Station- A Fitting Station is a place where parents/guardians can learn how to safely transport children by using appropriate child safety seat or vehicle safety belt correctly from a certified safety technician
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - Offered to contracted companies in our area providing limited counseling for their employees and immediate family, as well as alcohol/drug evaluations.
  • Free lending library- Resource Center of books, articles, brochures and tapes.
  • LifeSkills Training- A comprehensive school-based substance abuse prevention program designed to reduce the risks of alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse and violence. Provides adolescents and young teens with the confidence and skills necessary to successfully handle challenging situations. FREE to schools
  • Presentations/In-service trainings regarding tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.
  • Referral Sources- Looking for help. ADAC provides this service for individuals and their families who are seeking help to overcome the addictions of alcohol, drugs, or gambling problems.
  • SCARE: Student Created Aggression Replacement Education- An anger management program for youth 10-17 years of age. The primary goals of the program are to teach at-risk youth about emotions, including anger and aggression, and to help them recognize alternatives to violent behavior and aggressive responses. It also aims to help young people make good decisions in response to perceived offenses and otherwise cope in risky situations.
  • Substance Abuse Education Class- A 6- hour class for DWI clients by a Licensed Addiction Counselor.
  • Tobacco, Alcohol, and other Drugs Program (FREE Your Brain) - Is designed for youth that have been caught with tobacco products. Youth learn how tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs can affect the body and the brains development.
  • PROUD SPONOSOR of The Alcohol and Drug Free Zone during Mardi Gras parades
