In a society that continually promotes alcohol and drug use at every level, the need to provide education on the dangers of alcohol and/or drug abuse and its effect on the family has never been greater. We believe this education needs to begin as early as possible in people's lives. Properly educated, children and youth are much more resistant to being susceptible to use or abuse alcohol or drugs.
While we support the disease concept of alcoholism as defined by the American Medical Association, NCADD-SFV also believes that alcoholism is centered in the mutual relationship between the individual and their environment rather than centered solely in the individual. We know its effects on the family are just as devastating. We know alcoholism and/or drug addiction is a family disease.
