The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence of Hudson County, Secaucus, NJ: Affiliate of the Month- March 2015

History: The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence of Hudson County (NCADD Hudson) was established in 1988 as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. Its original name was Hudson County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse; in 1995 the name changed to NCADD Hudson and in 2002 the present name of Partners In Prevention was adopted. The agency was founded after the Hudson County Board of Freeholders identified the need for a non-governmental, county-wide organization to serve as a substance abuse prevention resource center. Community leaders, led by the Rev. Robert Alemy, responded by organizing the agency. Seed money to help launch the new agency was provided through grants from Hudson County and the New Jersey Department of Health. Partners In Prevention works to prevent substance abuse in individuals, families, schools and the broader community, and serves thousands of individuals across Hudson County. NCADD San Fernando Valley, CA: February 2015

Beliefs: In a society that continually promotes alcohol and drug use at every level, the need to provide education on the dangers of alcohol and/or drug abuse and its effect on the family has never been greater. We believe this education needs to begin as early as possible in people's lives. Properly educated, children and youth are much more resistant to being susceptible to use or abuse alcohol or drugs. While we support the disease concept of alcoholism as defined by the American Medical Association, NCADD-SFV also believes that alcoholism is centered in the mutual relationship between the individual and their environment rather than centered solely in the individual. We know its effects on the family are just as devastating. We know alcoholism and/or drug addiction is a family disease.   Visit the NCADD of the San Fernando Valley  website:   http://www.ncadd-sfv.org/ To Find More of NCADD's Affiliates, Search Here:...
