Employee & Family Resources (EFR), NCADD’s Des Moines, IA Affiliate, provides bilingual individual and family counseling, along with in-home support to families, through its “Para Ti Programa.”
Serving Polk, Dallas and Warren counties, EFR provides the support in Spanish and English to individuals and families when they face life’s challenges. The program offers in-office appointments with a master’s degreed therapist who is bilingual and bicultural, in addition to a bachelor’s degreed counselor who is available for home visits, school visits, and assistance in the community. Clients may access both services, and just the one they need by calling the Affiliate.
Para Ti was founded to serve the growing Latino community in Central Iowa. The program helps people address challenges of depression and other emotional issues, family or marital problems, legal or financial concerns, or substance abuse issues. All services through Para Ti are voluntary, confidential and designed for those who desire help.
Para Ti staff is trained and qualified professionals who use best practices to help clients to sort through their concerns and set realistic goals for improvement in their lives. The staff is familiar with the experience of many immigrants, as they have personal experience themselves. Common issues that the program is able to assist with are parenting and other family concerns, employment and financial stress, immigration issues, substance abuse and addiction, and relationship struggles.
The Para Ti Programa addresses many of the common barriers to Latinos accessing help by offering low-cost/no-cost services available in their first language and delivered by qualified professionals who are familiar with their challenges.
Therapy and counseling services are available by appointment at offices easily accessible in Des Moines and West Des Moines, both located on bus lines, and offer ample free parking. Services are available on a sliding fee scale, and the Para Ti therapist is a provider for Wellmark BC/BS and Medicaid insurance. In-home support is provided at no cost. Support for this program is provided by United Way of Central Iowa.
